Wishing Walls

Poems from my sketchbook – 2004

A Week in Prague

This table of fortune understands its people who gather to sing as

the night becomes fragmented and swans fly towards islands on the edge of town.

The stone is harsh reflecting a ripe memory of oval pools astounding

blindness avoiding sacrifice of metallic powders.

Prisoners between mountains exploit delicacies made from satin

during evening summers designed for opera singers – radio stars  – break their hearts, shattering the party mix – flavours of fizzy messed up people understanding

the children and their reflections mean everything. No matter, the colours will return to all the wishing walls.

the wishing walls are loved forever.

Waterloo Dock

I was recently invited to paint the Waterloo Dock in Liverpool to raise awareness of the campaign to stop building over heritage buildings and land. Here are some recent photos I have taken of the heritage dock and some of me painting the views in the surrounding area. It has been interesting to immerse myself in the area and talk to people who have grown up here. The Waterloo warehouse was once a flour factory and a man was telling me yesterday he used to accompany his father there as a child where he worked. The area itself is full of wildlife and nature and the more you look, the more you see. Development is fast and moving down there. Please take a moment to think about our cultural heritage and the old heritage sites being replaced by new buildings. There is a campaign that you can support and gives you more information on the threat to the Waterloo Docks. https://www.savewaterloodock.com/

I have found this project fascinating and painting in this area has been therapeutic, educational as well as reminding me of some of the old docks I was brought up with in Plymouth as a child. I love nature, the sea and ports and maritime. 🛶⛴🛳
