Meet the Artist | Interview with Alice Lenkiewicz | DegreeArt.com The Original Online Art Gallery

Alice Lenkiewicz is an artist inspired by her surroundings, inner thoughts and emotions and is interested in developing art out of a state of conscious presence. Enjoying peace, stillness and ambiguity within nature as well as observing the delicate contemporary sociological climate, Alice enjoys exploring these dichotomies in order to create concoctions of emotional and

Lady with Flowers

Lady with flowers – Mixed media textile art – 2020. I have always enjoyed using collage, mixed media, fabric and stitch in my art. In this piece I have created a painted face with acrylic on unstretched, unprimed cotton. I have them cut out flowers from fabric and stitched them on to the painting and then stretched the fabric over a frame.
I sometimes work like this because I enjoy this process. It is also very tactile. In this piece I have created an imaginary face and butterfly intuitively and added a flower wreath to her hair. I enjoy painting women’s faces as it is a calming and sensory theme that I express quite often in my work. The faces are inspired by many artworks I have seen in my life of women in art.
My exhibition, “Nouveau” is showing at The Art House, Southport and is open next week, Tuesday to Friday from 10-3 and Saturday, the last day next week from 11-4.

Nouveau Star

Nouveau Star- Oil on canvas – 2020. This was the first painting I created for my Nouveau exhibition. It idepicts an imaginary diva goddess. I painted it from my imagination allowing the colours and forms to come together intuitively. Realism, the black curly designs in the corners of the painting I have copied from the classic decorative wrought iron cornices from the verandas along Lord street in Southport. This painting was inspired by the art nouveau movement particularly the Austrian artist, Klimt and and Koloman Moser whose decorative bold designs were significant. In this painting I have deviated slightly towards early Hollywood and brought the idea of early silent movie female film stars into this piece so it is a combination of inspirations. Nouveau my exhibition is now at The Art House in Southport, 65, Eastbank street. Open Tuesday to Friday, 10-3 and Saturday 11-4 until the 5th September!

Forthcoming exhibition.

In this exhibition Alice Lenkiewicz has created a series of paintings, responding to the idea of women in design, during the era of “fin de siècle” at the end of the 19th century. A time when women were rising up and gaining independence and equality and a time of beautiful design works.

It would be wonderful if you could get along to see my work. ❤️
